“THE SEXUAL HARASSMENT OF WOMEN AT WORKPLACE “[ prevention , prohibition and redressal ] Act 2013.

An awareness workshop on “THE SEXUAL HARASSMENT OF WOMEN AT WORKPLACE“[Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal ] Act 2013.was held at Dr D. Y. Patil College of Engg. & Tech. Kolhapur on 27.02.2017.The event was supported by an initiative of Maharashtra State Commission for women.

Today, Men and women work together in different work sectors.Women and students of all genders may have to suffer sexual harassment. Any form of sexual harassment is against the basic human right of freedom and right to live. Every individual deserves a workplace with basic respect and which is safe and secure. “ The sexual harassment of women at workplace“ [Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal ]Act 2013 laid down a grievance redressal mechanism that mandates all educational institutes to set up an Internal Complaints Committee [ ICC ] to look into such complaints.

Training programs have been proposed by Maharashtra state commission for women and students of all gender, to create awareness in all colleges in Maharashtra. The main objective of this workshop was to create Awareness regarding the safe and healthy environment for each individual i.e.; woman and student at the workplace. To achieve these objectives, this was the first initiative taken by our institute.

The chief guest of Honor was Prof. Mrs Sadhana Zadbuke (M.A., M.Phil.Sociology.), who is an eminent Social worker, working for the cause of Woman safety, Eradication of Devdasipratha, Sexual harassment issues and Rehabilitation of child orphans. She is a recipient of many prestigious awards such as FAI Foundation Award Ichalkaranji, Dalit MitraPuraskar etc.

The program started at 2.30 pm at Seminar hall -1.The inauguration was done by lightening the lamp by Chief Guest and other dignitaries. The guest was felicitated by the Principal, Dr. V.R. Ghorpade. Introduction of the guest was done by Prof. Mrs P.S. Pise. Aims, Objectives, and announcement of the new ICC committee were done by Vice Principal Dr Mrs. K. V. Kulhalli. A very informative keynote speech was delivered by the chief guest. The speech was punctuated with suitable examples for the understanding of the subject to the students. The vote of thanks was delivered by Prof.A.M. Joshi.The event was successful in terms of creating awareness regarding sexual harassment of women and safe and healthy work environment at workplace, among the students.
